Emergence as a District
In 1725 Kushtia region was under the Zamindari jurisdiction of Natore and it became famous when included in the civil administration of Rajshahi of Kandanagar subdivision. Later British East India Company brought Kushtia under Jessore District in 1776. But in 1828 it was again included under Pabna District. In 1861 when Indigo rebellion broke out, Kushtia was established as a subdivision. Before the partition of the subcontinent, Kushtia was a subdivision under Nadia District. Kushtia emerged as a emerged as a district in 1947 and consisted of three three subdivisions including Chuadanga and Meherpur. When Chuadanga and Meherpur emerged as districts, emerged as districts, the present Kushtia district ged as districts, the present Kushtia district consisted 6 thanas.
