Sports of Kushtia district have gained a reputation at the national level. Kushtia's son Habibul Bashar Sumon had been the captain of Bangladesh national cricket team for a long time. Three shooters from Kushtia Rifle Club, Shahriar Rustam, Hafizur Rahman Sagar and Imran Hossain won gold in the last Bangladesh Games. Kushtia Rifle Club is known as the best rifle club in Khulna division.

Kushtia district, known as the capital of education, literature and culture of Western Bangladesh,  is considered as the land of sunrise in the history of the  freedom struggle of Bangladesh. Kushtia, rich in the memory of world poet Rabindranath Tagore, has enriched Bangladesh in art, literature and culture. Besides this,  the soil of Kushtia has also been enriched by great people including the author of Bishad Sindhu, Mir Mosharraf Hossain, the pilgrimage of Baul emperor Lalon, homestead and graveyard of  the lyricist, composer and poet Azizur Rahman of Hatsh Haripur village of old Kushtia, great poet Dad Ali, writer Mahmuda Khatun Siddika, Abu Zafar, the composer of the great song ‘Ei Padma Ei Meghna’, Kangal Harinath, the founder of literature and culture of Kushtia, Pari Sundari, the indigo revolutionary, Bagha Jatin, leader of Swadeshi movement, Engineer Kamrul Islam Siddqui, Singer Md. Abdul Zabbar, Farida Parvin and others.
