Bangladesh India Electronic Grid Interconnection Project launched in joint venture with Bangladesh and India in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia district by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This will result in the generation of 500 MW electricity. Initially, the 500 MW power transmission station was set up. Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) plans to increase capacity to run more than 500 megawatts. At the beginning of 2010, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed a deal to purchase 250 MW electricity during her visit to India. After that, another 250-megawatt agreement was taken from private entrepreneurs in the country.
